What's considered low blood pressure?

My blood pressure has always been around 90/51. When I started college I gained 40 pounds over the course of two years. My blood pressure went up to "normal" during this period (around 120/77) Over the course of the last year I have lost almost all the weight I had gained, started running and going to the gym and became vegetarian (I only very rarely consume any dairy or eggs.) Now my blood pressure has went back down to around 90/47. I heard this was too low, but it seems my blood pressure is around this when I am living a healthy lifestyle, and around the "normal" range when I am eating bad foods and not exercising.

What’s up with that? Could it be possible that what is considered too low for most people is normal for me, and what is considered normal for most is high for me?

A BP below 90/60 could be low BP if you suffer from dizziness, faintness and actual fainting spells but in your particular case you are probably OK as you live a healthy lifestyle and you don’t suffer from the above symptoms.

Perhaps in your case a supposedly "low" BP is normal for you and a supposedly "normal" BP is high for you.

First, I’ll give you an example for me. I have a normal blood sugar reading of 72 and the normal should be 80 – 120. Sometimes, our bodies can get use to something and that can be our normal.

As for your situation 90/47 is a very low blood pressure. The bottom is low and the top isn’t to bad. However, you do not want them running close to each other because of risk of stroke or pass out. The normal reading for blood pressure is 120/80. So, if you take that into account your blood pressure is moderately low but your body could be use to it.

There is no reason for concern.
