I'm 14 years old and I have high blood pressure, what should I do?


Today at school we had our blood pressure taken and the nurse said my blood pressure was high, I think it was something like 155/83. What does this mean? What can I do to lower it? Are there things I shouldn’t eat, like sweets, icecream, salt, or other foods? My doctor never said anything about me having high blood pressure, but my dad has had it.
Just to add more details, I’m 120 pounds and am usually pretty calm. The nurse said I’d be checked again in a few weeks.

    Firstly calm down you need to have it checked over a period of a month to give an accurate reading Try cutting down on all salt crisps ect I would go and see your doctor just to put your mind at rest he is the best person to advise Also try to keep your weight in check

    Treating:

    -If there’s no underlying illness, your child’s doctor may recommend weight loss
    -increased intake of fruits and vegetables
    -decreased salt intake, increased exercise -
    relaxation techniques.
    - Quit or never start smoking, which can worsen the long-term associated heart problems.

    Make sure to research High Blood pressure in kids both on the internet and with your doctor.

    Good advice, Daniyello. A healthy, low-sodium diet, exercise, and not smoking are all great ways to maintain healthy blood pressure levels. I would also add ‘getting enough sleep’ to the list.

    Definitely make an appointment with your physician and see what he feels is best.
