High blood pressure question?

My mom has high blood pressure and is nervous about it. But she also eats all the wrong foods ( high sodium and fat) and drinks beer almost everday and alot of it. She is has just now started to work out. If she cuts out beer , changes her diet to low sodium and works out everday for 30 Min. will it lower. And if so , how quickly??
she is also somewhat overweight
and she is currently on high blood pressure.

This is a tough question to answer.

Yes, it probably would drop her blood pressure more than what it is now. However, the rate at which it would fall would not be known.

Exercise, healthy diet, and not consuming lots of alcohol also decreases the risk of heart disease.

Even if she does all of this, it might not make much of an impact. If it does, thats good but she might still need to remain on high BP medicine, possibly decreasing the dosage.

Well, if it doesn’t really impact the BP much, so what, she should feel much better doing that stuff!

    Have a good one!

TAYLOR is right… it will likely lower it but the amount is impossible to predict.

The important thing for her is to make some permanent lifestyle changes so that she reduces her risk for further problems related to heart disease.

A good site you could suggest to her has information about diet http://www.smart-heart-living.com/heart_healthy_diet.html
    exercise http://www.smart-heart-living.com/exercise.html blood pressure http://www.smart-heart-living.com/high-blood-pressure.html
and many other aspect of heart disease. But the overall intent of the site is to provide information and resources for those living with heart disease to do it successfully.

Hope this helps… good luck to your mom.

It sounds like she needs to get more nervous about it. If she makes the changes that you propose, she should see an improvement in just a few days since she’s on medication.
