Could my blood pressure be this high because of nerves?

I checked it today in class and it was 133 over 95. What can I do to lower it? How long would it take to lower it and what foods would I have to eat. I’m 115 pounds and I’ve started walking on the treadmill (before I knew how high it was).

Exercise, no smoking, stress reductions, are all great. Diet wise, the first thing I would do is get rid of added salt in your food and start reading labels for sodium content. When they follow a specific diet to reduce high blood pressure, people can often see results in as little as three weeks. I really thing that diet is the major factor there: cruciferous veggies are good, so are nuts, and there are even spices you can cook with that can help. So don’t despair– you can definitely save your health, but you must take action right away!

I don’t think you can put a lot of weight on this one time blood pressure especially since working out was involved. The ideal time to take your blood pressure is at rest first thing when you wake up when you haven’t had any type of stimulant to interfere with your readings in the last 4-6hrs. This would need to be done over the course of 3 weeks and if it’s above 140/90 then you potentially have a problem.
