Can eating certain foods spike your Blood pressure?

I’m on BP meds. I also watch my diet. I’m not on a low sodium diet, as just the medication does a very good job of keeping me below 120/80. I don’t generally eat a lot of sodium ever since I was diagnosed with chronic hypertension. Today however I went out to the mall with some friends and indulged in a hotdog from Nathans, and and then a chicken sandwhich from McDonalds. I felt a little when I got home my BP was 131/79. Can eating these foods spike your BP? My usual BP is 115/70 w/ medication.

yep. hotdogs and processed meats are loaded w/ sodium. The day you had Nathan’s and McDonald’s you probably had a week’s worth of sodium.

while you may not add a lot of salt to your food, salt is a major preservative in a lot of prepared foods so if you eat a lot lunchmeats, bacon, hotdogs, a lot of canned goods or frozen foods then you’re eating a lot of sodium.

The more fresh food you prepare yourself and eat the less sodium you’ll get.

Well fast food in general is extremely salty. Not saying you can’t eat it, just don’t have too much of it since it can spike your blood pressure pretty high.

Sure can I have a medical condition where I have chronic low blood pressure. I have to have more sodium than most people. Really salty foods can raise your BP.
